Poland wants anti-Russian sanctions extended by 6 months
BRUSSELS, Dec 1 (PRIME) -- Warsaw thinks that the E.U. economic sanctions against Russia should be prolonged by six months, Poland’s ambassador to Belgium Artur Harazim said at a conference Tuesday.
“At the moment we think that Russia does not take enough action to fulfill its obligations to Kiev and the international community…we think that the sanctions should be prolonged for six more months,” he said.
In 2014, relations between Russia and the West deteriorated to their worse since the Cold War due to a military conflict in Ukraine. The West introduced sanctions against some Russian individuals and firms and further against the energy and banking sectors. In response, Russia limited food imports from some countries, including the U.S., the E.U., Canada, Australia, and Norway.
The E.U. sanctions expire on January 31, 2016, and E.U. states are to discuss prolongation or suspension of anti-Moscow sanctions in mid-December.
